WD warranty service
Reviewed by Anonymous Review Posted 09/12/2010
I have been using a pair of these in a raid 1 array for over a year. Recently the raid controller software reported a fault in one of the drives indicating that it should be replaced immediately. I panicked and requested RMA for one drive direct with WD. 3 1/2 days later a new drive arrived from somewhere in continental Europe couriered by UPS. In the interim having removed faulty drive I plugged it into another comuter out of interest and amazingly no problem found. All data readable. Re-inserted into original computer and rebuilt array. Fault was with RAID controller.
I notified WD who said to simply reject delivery from UPS.
In the event I didn't, and I have bought it as a spare.
Cannot find any fault with WD warranty service.

Very fast and very quiet, runs cool and doesn't look like it's going to fail any time soon. one space left for a hard drive and it'll definately be one of these.

Decent Drive + Good Warranty
Reviewed by Matt. Review Posted 02/05/2009
I've not had the drive that long so I can’t talk about long term reliability but with a 5 year warranty it gives me a fair bit of confidence. I wanted an external HDD but I wanted to use this drive specifically because it’s quite fast. I have set it up using an Akasa Elite Leather 3.5" Hard Drive Enclosure allowing both USB and esata connections. Having tested both connections USB transferred at around 30MB/s and esata had an average of near the 90MB/s mark (limited by the HD speed) which is pretty good. The only negative so far is very minor, it’s quite heavy obviously due to having three platters but then I guess you don’t buy a 3.5” HDD with portability a number 1 priority! I did look at the Samsung SpinPoint F1 RAID Class but it seemed to have more reliability problems on reviews I read but I’m just going by other peoples comments there.

WD Black Caviar and ReadyNAs DUO
Reviewed by . Review Posted 15/02/2010
HI
These seem ok disks but DO NOT USE in a netgear duo. I got them for netgear dupo and have no end of problems **note that they are not in the HLC list for netgear duo NAS. Even though Netgear lead you to believe you can use any disk.
