Upgrade for 3 Yr old Hp zv6009ea
Reviewed by Graham. Review Posted 10/05/2009
I bought a used WD250 drive DABS had. Delivery was next day so top marks there. I had a 40GB drive that worked fine. Installing the new drive was straightforward and I did a clean install of Windows XP SP2. After downloading all updates for XP (not SP3 though) and installing AVG free and Zonealarm the bootup time had gone from a slow noisy 3 1/2 mins to 1 1/2 mins. This drive is very quiet and the only noise I can hear is the cooling fan. This was the largest PATA drive I found after a couple of weeks search. Overall a very good very well priced drive (even full price) that has improved performance of my computer no end. I would absolutely recommend this.

upgrade for Powerbook G4 15" HD
Reviewed by Oliver. Review Posted 22/03/2009
I upgraded the internal hard drive of my Apple Powerbook G4 15" Al (BT 2.0) with this drive (using the instructions from ifixit.com). It works perfectly and is---as others remarked---probably the biggest PATA 2.5" drive that one will ever get, so there wasn't much choice and one has to accept the price tag.

Works well in 4-year old Compaq Presario
Reviewed by Gerry. Review Posted 03/03/2009
Formatted easily enough (using WD's Lifeguard tool downloaded and Windows XP) in my 4+ year-old HP/Compaq Presario R3000 series. Then copied data over from old drive in external drive box, using Acronis. Works well and I've now got the old drive as an external backup. At almost £70 the drive wasn't cheap, but (as a previous reviewer said) its probably the largest PATA 2.5 inch drive that will now be made to extend the life of an older laptop.

Good reliable quiet drive.

I cannot agree with the last reviewers comment. He might have suffered with a bad batch of drives. It happens across all manufacturers from time to time. You cannot damn a whole manufacturer and a whole series of drives on just a few failiures. Thats why we have warrenty.
I upgraded the 40gb drive on an IBM Thinkpad x31. The laptop runs very well now and the drive has been very reliable. I have used many desktop versions of Western Digital drives, as well as Fujitsu, Maxtor and Samsung. A friend of mine recently had a Samsung 750GB fail on him as soon as he turned it on. As said...this can happen now and then. I trust this drive with my work data and my personal data. Though as any experienced computer user will tell you...always back up!
I cannot complain about the Western Digital Scorpio. I believe this is the largest and probably the last PATA that will be made so get them while they are still avalible.

Great Replacement Hard Hrive for Apple Powerbook G4
Reviewed by Anonymous Review Posted 05/05/2008
Brought this hard drive to replace the hard drive in my Powerbook 12" G4 1GHz. Runs a lot quieter than the original hard drive suppled with the laptop and produces roughly the same amount of heat, but the heat is down to the lack of cooling in the laptop not the hard drive.

Multiple failures
Reviewed by Peter. Review Posted 06/09/2008
I have already had this hard disk replace twice. The first disk lasted a couple of weeks then failed, displaying only a flashing cursor when booted. It was swiftly replaced by Dabs, but the replacement failed after only a month with the same flashing cursor. A quick google search will show that numerous other people are experiencing the same problem with this model of hard disk. Best avoided...
