Key FeaturesKiller Speed - Built on the performance bloodlines of WD Raptor, these 10,000 RPM drives, with SATA 3 Gb/s interface, and 16 MB cache deliver mind-bending performance. Not only are they 35 percent faster than the previous generation WD Raptor drives, but they also beat out all other competitors in the field.
Rock-solid Reliability - Designed and manufactured to mission-critical enterprise-class standards to provide enterprise reliability in high duty cycle environments. With 1.4 million hours MTBF, these drives have the highest available reliability rating on a high capacity SATA drive.
Double the Capacity - State-of-the-art technology packs twice the capacity per disk compared to its older brother WD Raptor resulting in 300 GB of high-performance storage space in this enterprise-class 2.5-inch drive. (Not compatible with notebook computers)
IcePack™ Mounting Frame - The 2.5-inch WD VelociRaptor is enclosed in a 3.5-inch enterprise-class mounting frame with a built-in heat sink that keeps this powerful little drive extra cool when installed in high-performance desktop chassis.
Rotary Acceleration Feed Forward (RAFF™) - Optimizes operation and performance when the drives are used in vibration-prone, multi-drive chassis.
SecurePark™ - Parks the recording heads off the disk surface during spin up, spin down and when the drive is off. This ensures the recording head never touches the disk surface resulting in improved long-term reliability and increased drive protection when the chassis is moved.
5-year limited warranty

Fast (if expensive)

Blisteringly fast, and no problems so far.
Yes, it's expensive for a hard disk - but you get what you pay for with this kind of thing, and if you want speed, then it's worth it.

Brilliant Drive - But make sure you get a good RAID Controller
Reviewed by Shaun. Review Posted 06/10/2008
I dropped four of these into my Gaming PC - They were a LOT quieter than my old Raptors, but were being held back by my onboard RAID controller. I bought an Areca ARC-1212 SAS/SATA controller, and it made a huge difference in performance. These are expensive drives - Make sure you budget for the kit to support them before you buy. Reluctant purchase
Reviewed by Mark. Review Posted 08/10/2008
So expensive for so few GB...but
I went through all the options for a fast external drive to use for e-sata connection with video files for use with After-Effects and Final Cut Studio and experimented with the apps using this. Couldn't do and didn't need 15Kdisks and Raid0 on 7.2K had disappointing performance (and mtbf for combo).
Just using a cheap and cheerful e-sata connection ...and I back up the drive very frequently of course.
I am very happy with my decision. Another £50 cheaper and I wouldn't have spent so many months deciding.

Makes a significant performance increase if you have one of these as a boot/application drive. I think Raid 0 has become unnecessary now, these are very fast and overall quality very good. Worth the cash in a high spec system, get one of these as a primary drive and something like (quicklinx:4ZTTWS) as a data drive

Best upgrade you can make

This drive completely delivers on all fronts. It's fast and quiet. I doubt there is any other upgrade you could make to your system for this price that offers such a noticeable performance enhancement.

Suprisingly quiet
Reviewed by Anonymous Review Posted 28/06/2008
Another super fast, super expensive hard drive from Western Digital.
In my system, it replaced an older 76gb Raptor drive. It is noticably faster and at lot quieter. Programs seems to work more smoothly and the whole system feels tighter and more responsive. Boot time is reduced and game levels load quicker.
The price is very high, but these drives should be very reliable with a 1.4 million hour MTBF.
This drive has made a noticable and pleasant improvement to my systems speed.
