Runs quietly and without issues. Very cheap for an IDE/ATA drive of this capacity: hey, I'm not complaining! I may well buy a second one for additional storage, at this price, it's well worth it.

Just to advise the 130Gb size indicated, instead of 500Gb, in Windows XP service pack 2 is not a fault with the drive it is a glitch in Windows. Go to http://support.wdc.com/download and download 'Data LifeGuard Tools 11.2 for Windows' That will sort the problem out.

I replaced my Maxtor 160Gb (8Mb cache) drive with this. Super value, fast and quiet, and very easily installed.
No wonder they keep selling out!
I might well buy another as a slave.

I bought the drive because it was good value for my and had an excellent performance rating. In fact, it is fast and silent - exactly what you want in a drive. At first it was difficult to get the drive to read beyond 137Gb, but after reading the other reviews of this drive, I downloaded the 'Data LifeGuard Tools 11.2 for Dos' from the WD website and it sorted the problem out - formatting the full 500Gb, with Windows XP SP1. I recommend this drive!

Used this a second drive and backup. Packed up after two weeks and PC refused to boot up as long it is was connected. Returned it today and hope the next one is better. never had this happen before with a hard drive, and hope it never happens again!

This drive refused to spin up after one day of use. I installed Win XP Pro & all drivers, and then the very next day it refused to work. I hope this was a one-off and that it doesn't happen to anyone else.

Worked fine but I had to send mine back as on formatting it showed only 128 Gig and not the full 500. I have bought many drives before and this was a first for me.
