As demand for storage continues to expand, the need for more efficient power solutions becomes paramount. WD RE2-GP makes it possible for large scale data centers to increase storage capacity without exceeding available power, and in many cases actually reduce power consumption. WD RE2-GP drives help combat the four major challenges large data installations face - total drive slots, maximum capacity, power allotment, and available operations expense budget - while lowering the overall total cost of ownership.

Solid build, great so far
Reviewed by Simon. Review Posted 25/07/2008
I've had these for about a month and theyre great. One thing I can say is that the build feels noticably more solid than standard drives. Definitely feels very well made compared to others. I've probably got through 20 or 30 hard drives; consumer Hitachi and WD are good but dont feel as solid as these. As for Maxtor, forget it, these are a million times better made. Of course, the best judge of hard drives is after a few years, so time will tell, but on first use these are top notch. Fast too.

Failed After 10 Months (an update)
Reviewed by Travis. Review Posted 01/09/2009
I accept that hard drives will fail and as this is the first Western Digital drive that has failed on me, I was more than a little anxious to find out what hoops I would have to jump through to get a replacement. I shouldn't have worried though - The RMA system on Western Digital's website worked perfectly and I had a replacement drive from them within a week.

Failed After 10 Months
Reviewed by Travis. Review Posted 24/07/2009
I purchased this drive for its low power consumption, quiet operation, speed and capacity to put into a media center PC and I was very pleased with it before it failed at 10 months. After a mains failure I had trouble getting the media center to work properly and I discovered unrecoverable failures after running the Western Digital Data Lifeguard Diagnostics:
Quick Test - Read element failure. Error/Status Code: 0007.
Full Media Scan - Too many errors found - Please contact technical support. Error/Status Code: 0225.
I’ve always been a big fan of Western Digital and I’ll get a direct replacement for this one – hopefully the next one will last longer!
