Xilence XP480-12R Power 480W Quiet PSU
Discontinued

Description

Like most recent power supplies, this Xilence Power PSU is fitted with a 120mm fan. This produces higher airflow at lower noise levels compared to a 80mm fan. The noise levels generated by these PSUs are very favourable. Starting from just 19.5 dB(A) and reaching a maximum of only 24 dB(A), meaning that this power supplies remains very quiet even when under high load.

This 480W PSU is ideal for mid range systems and is supplied with one 6-pin PCI-E connector. The PSU also features Molex plug easy-grip connectors, allowing the user to remove any plug with little hassle. See the specification table below for a full list of available connectors.

Cool running

The fan bearing on my old PSU went. So I set aside £100 to upgrade to a 750W supply - only to find that all of these PSUs were deeper than 14cm. Problem with my WC rig is that there's a huge radiator just behind the PSU. The strongest PSU that I could find on DABS that would still fit the original ATX spec was this Xilence - and it was a lot cheaper than budgeted! The PSU is super-leight. Looking through the rear louvre, there's hardly any componentry. The large fan spins VERY quietly and my CPU temps have dropped from 64C to 57C. (My computer is trapped under my desk and I assume that the hotter exhaust from the old PSU was negatively impacting the efficacy of the WC). I am very happy with this new PSU. Now it only needs to live as long as its predecessor... PS: This is NOT a modular PSU and the cable trunk is towards the rear of the case. I would have preferred to buy this PSU's modular cousin (on account of that radiator) but could not find any stockist in the UK.

Blissfully quiet, and more SATA connectors than the description says...
Reviewed by Steve. Review Posted 17/10/2009

The description stresses the quietness of this PSU and it is very quiet. If your current PSU sounds like a jet engine, it's worth buying this just for extra peace and quiet. The connectors are slightly different from those described... it actually has 4 SATA power connectors (not 2), although only 2 traditional 4-pin HDD power connectors (not 4). This is a better ratio for modern PCs, but beware if you're replacing a PSU in an old PC with more than 2 IDE drives. In fact, even if your (IDE) DVD drive is physically separate from your (IDE) HDD, you're going to struggle, as the two 4-pin connectors are on the same cable. Also, it came with an EU plug on the mains lead, not a UK one. Overall, I'm very happy with its performance, and the difference in specs from the description actually worked out better for me personally. If I'd been upgrading an old PC needing more than 2 traditional 4-pin connectors, I'd have been more than a bit annoyed at the errors in the description.

Replaced an Alienware failed PSU with this

Absolutely perfect in every way. Easy fit, well packaged, good price. Went in like a dream, nice length of cables for a large case with good solid connectors.

Felt like a more expensive PSU thats for sure.

Highly recommended at this stage - hope it lasts!
