The Synology DS211+ runs on the renowned operating system, Synology DiskStation Manager 3.0 (DSM 3.0), offering applications and features designed specifically for SMBs. Comprehensive network protocol support assures seamless file sharing across Windows, Mac®, and Linux® platforms. Windows ADS integration allows the Synology DS211+ to quickly and easily fit in an existing business network environment with no need to recreate user accounts. Windows ACL support provides much finer-grained access control and efficient privilege settings, allowing users to enjoy native Windows experience. Internet file access is simplified with the included encrypted FTP server and the web-based file explorer, Synology File Station 3. HTTPS, the built-in firewall, and IP auto-block support ensure file sharing over the Internet is protected at a high security level.

A wealth of additional features allows the Synology DS211+ to replace several pieces of network hardware. Synology Web Station with support for PHP/MySQL content allows for the hosting of up to 30 websites on a single Synology DS211+. PC Users can back up their data to the Synology DS211+ using the free Synology Data Replicator software, while Mac OS X users enjoy native Apple® Time Machine® integration. A backup wizard is also provided for backing up data in the DS211+ to another Synology DiskStation or any rsync server via an encrypted transmission, or to an external hard drive via USB or eSATA connection. Furthering options, the wizard also makes it easy to backup to the cloud via Amazon® S3. In addition, users can back up and restore DiskStation shared folders in multiple versions using Synology Time Backup package.

USBCopy and SDCopy provide a plug-n-save solution to store data. With just one touch on the «Copy» button in the front panel, it quickly backs up all data on an USB storage device or SD card to the pre-defined shared folder on the DiskStation.

The multitasking web UI on DSM 3.0 lets users to run multiple applications simultaneously on one tab browser and switch between them instantly. User Home feature makes creating private shared folders for a large number of users an easy task as it minimizes the steps and time for the administrator to create private shared folders. Sub-folder privilege settings further extend the flexibility to allocate permissions for different workgroups. Not only does it provide the smart airflow to keep the system running cool 24/7, its 90mm fan and the snap-on HDD tray cover also allows the system to operate in a completely quiet environment.
